I AM EMPATHETIC

Staff and students must Validate one another while holding each other to high standards. Staff and students should communicate that they understand the present challenges without judgment. Explore all perspectives of a situation and try to view unique situations from another individuals lens.

Examples:

How can staff demonstrate Empathy within student engagement.

  • Personalize emails when students are absent (ie We missed you today, how are you feeling?)

  • Showing concern while also giving space to process everything.

  • View situations from the perspective of the student.

  • .Perform weekly check-ins

How can students demonstrate Empathy amongst their peers

  • Allowing your peers to vent about their concerns.

  • Listen to one another; be present during conversations.

  • Perform weekly check-ins.

  • Encourage each other and being happy for each other.

Tools That we can provide to encourage this:

Provide email templates for staff and student engagement, provide PDs on Empathy and identifying signs of distress
